India's Santiniketan and Tell es-Sultan of Palestine have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage sites list along with half a dozen other sites in Iran, Ethiopia, Cambodial, Mongolia, and also Tajikistan-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan Silk Roads.
Israeli authorities were upset by a UN committee's decision to label ruins near Jericho a World Heritage Site in Palestine.
The decision was taken during the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
Established in 1901 by the Nobel Laureate, Santiniketan was a residential school and centre for art based on ancient Indian traditions and a vision of the unity of humanity transcending religious and cultural boundaries.
