Sanctuary Forest Hike Docent Training

Sanctuary Forest Hike Docent Training Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, April 7th for the 2024 Docent Training! This free training will prepare volunteers to represent Sanctuary Forest and help guide one (or more!) of 9 hikes offered this summer. Participants will learn basic first aid, learn how to lead the opening and closing circles, assist hike leaders, keep track of hikers, and more. No previous experience is necessary and speaking in front of the group is not necessarily required. Lunch is provided. Beauty of the Lost Coast Hike: Needle Rock to Bear Harbor Join Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, July 30th for the Beauty of the Lost Coast Hike: Needle Rock to Bear Harbor. Hikers will be treated to spectacular views of the rugged coastline, abundant wildlife and plants, and stories about the history of Bear Harbor and the Sinkyone Wilderness. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Sanctuary Forest office, and bring lunch and plenty of water for this six mile round trip hike. RSVPs are required for this hike due to uncertain road repair plans in the works for the road to Needle Rock.

Participants will be treated to a dynamic discussion about the latest in stream restoration, and we’ll learn about the geology of the Mattole headwaters along the way.
