Freeport fire on Broadway destroys multifamily building
Journal Standard FREEPORT — A GoFundMe campaign aims to help three families who were displaced after an early-morning fire Friday in their multifamily building. The campaign raised $185 of its $5,000 goal as of Monday afternoon. It was created by Meagan Walsh, a former tenant. She said she wants to lend a helping hand to the families. Before moving to her new house, she was their neighbor and their children played together. The fire left 16 residents without a home, according to Freeport Fire Deputy Chief Scott Stykel.
