Chesterfield seeks to streamline parts of the county's comprehensive plan

In an effort to update parts of the county’s Comprehensive Plan, planning commissioners in Chesterfield County are proposing removing and streamlining four sections within the plan that they say are outdated and could “hurt potential investment and revitalization opportunities in these older areas.”

Chesterfield County has a new roadmap to guide the redevelopment of aging retail centers at the corner of Hull Street and Courthouse roads toward a mixed-use future.
The Board of Supervisors on Wednesday voted unanimously to adopt the Rockwood Special Focus Area plan. The long-range land-use plan is focused on an area of 673 acres centered on the Rockwood Square, Oxbridge Square and Rockwood Plaza shopping centers, which are near Rockwood Park. The park is also part of the design area.

The Chesterfield Planning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend a proposed land-use design district intended to guide redevelopment of aging retail centers at the corner of Hull Street and Courthouse roads into a mixed-use hub.
Dubbed the Rockwood Special Focus Area, the concept is a county staff proposal intended to establish long-range land-use planning and policies in areas county staff feel are good candidates for redevelopment or may be in transition.

Chesterfield County planners have a plan they say will inject life into an aging commercial hub near Rockwood Park.
County officials last week unveiled a draft plan for the Rockwood Special Focus Area, encompassing 673 acres centered on the Rockwood Square, Oxbridge Square and Rockwood Plaza shopping centers at the intersection of Hull Street and Courthouse roads.
