Quick-thinking teen helps save life after house catches fire Thankfully, a total of seven people got out alive. As CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff reports, a two story home on St. Peters Drive in Brentwood caught fire. A resident was out back cooking, according to her neighbor, who saw the flames spread to the house. Star Grant, 16, says everyone ran out except for her 69-year-old neighbor. “They were cooking and I guess the lady got scared and she ran out, and the whole house was on fire, and I rushed inside because I knew she was in there, and I rushed inside and I grabbed her,” Star said.
It happened on Peters Drive in Brentwood around 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof and spread through the home. A neighbor, 16-year-old Star Grant, ran into the basement of the house to get out her neighbor, 69-year-old Catalina Segura Jose. "I knew she was down there and I was screaming for her and she was responding and I just ran downstairs and I got her," Grant said. "She didn't want to leave because all of her belongings were in there like her social security, everything. She was trying to grab everything and I said 'no, we have to get out now.'"
"I ran inside, I couldn't leave her in there," Grant said. "I literally grabbed her and said, 'Let's go!'" Grant and the woman escaped unharmed, with the latter with only the clothes on her back. The inferno was shooting through the roof of the building when Brentwood firefighters arrived, and it took dozens of them to finally douse the flames. Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Renison said there was a heavy fire on the second floor, where the roof collapsed and propane tanks were left in the back of the house.
