Today, Google formally announced Android 12, which is packing some major UI changes in the form of Material You, in addition to some privacy enhancements, and other new features. Of course, along with that, the company also announced the Android 12 beta program, as it usually does at its I/O developer event.
This time around, Google is saying the beta program is available on devices from 11 different brands, which you can find here. We re going to be focusing on Google s Pixel devices, which are the easiest to setup for the beta program because beta builds are simply served as OTA updates instead of requiring you to flash a new build. ....

Three lands today. As usual, Google highlights the developer-facing changes in today s announcement, though it s almost certain there are other user-facing changes and hidden features in DP3 beyond the publicly documented API and permissions tweaks. Importantly, this is also the last major release before Android 12 enters its Beta Program, and changes start to slow down a bit.
Though Google highlights how DP3 affects developers more than anything, there are a few changes it sounds like we ll notice, including a new app launch experience that provides automatic splash screens for starting apps. Some of the details, like automatic dark theme support, leaked back in February, and we actually got a glimpse of them in action in a recent leak (pictured below). These new splash screens will use a standardized set of design elements ....

Android 12 DP2 picks up a second (much bigger) bug-fixing update

Google rolls out a big Android 12 preview bug-fix update today
Android 12 DP2 just picked up its second bug-fixing update, bumping things numerically to DP2.2. This latest release includes a
lot more fixes than DP2.1 did, including a fix for video encoding issues that I ran into, a crash tied to the Bluetooth section of Settings, disappearing widgets, and a failure to save Wi-Fi passwords, among others.

This release also joins other Pixels in picking up the April patches, but it also fixes at least seven named issues:
Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the Settings app to crash when a user tried to access Bluetooth settings. (Issue #180962266) ....
