Washington, May 19: In order to protect consumers from becoming ill, produce such as lettuce and spinach are frequently tested for foodborne pathogenic bacteria such as salmonella, listeria monocytogenes, and pathogenic strains of E. coli.
A team of researchers have created a multi-spectral imaging platform to look at plant sentinel response. The goal is to use this technique to detect foodborne pathogens on produce before it even heads to the grocery store. This collaboration will enhance technology and have a major positive impact on food safety and public health.
