Dominic McGregor among four appointments at Manchester VC

by Alistair Hardaker
Manchester-based venture capital investor Praetura Ventures has appointed four new operational partners in Colin Greene, Dominic McGregor, Catherine Barber-Brown and Mark Slade.
The newly created role is hoped to “bring significant intellect, energy and commercial experience on board to support the founders and entrepreneurs it backs.”
McGregor (pictured center-left) is the co-founder and ex-COO of Social Chain, who alongside co-founder Steven Bartlett, helped grow the marketing company to a $200m turnover business with a client portfolio that included Amazon, McDonald’s and the BBC. McGregor left the business in November 2020.
He is joined by Colin Greene (pictured center-right), who has recently returned to the North West from Silicon Valley. Greene has spent the last 30 years working for tech companies including Intel and Apple, where he most recently led its consumer retail business in the US.

Chief executive of Scotsman and Yorkshire Post owner ousted after takeover

The chief executive of regional newspaper giant JPI Media has been ousted, weeks after the company’s £10.2 million takeover.
It is understood that David King left JPI, which owned titles including the Scotsman and the Yorkshire Post, earlier this month alongside other members of the company’s leadership team.
On New Year’s Eve, the publisher was snapped up by National World, the media takeover vehicle led by former Mirror Group boss David Montgomery.
The PA news agency understands the changes are part of a shake-up of the company’s leadership structure to dismantle JPI’s previous executive team and pass their responsibilities on to regional title editors and executives at National World.

Editor-in-chief among five to depart JPI Media in wake of National World deal

by David Prior
Jeremy Clifford, editor-in-chief of JPI Media and a former editor of the Yorkshire Post and Sheffield Star, is among five executives who will leave the publisher in the wake of its recent sale.
Earlier this month, JPI Media was bought by National World, an investment vehicle led by industry veteran David Montgomery, in a £10.2m deal.
And the company has now announced that Clifford, interim chief financial officer Cormac O’Shea, group commercial director Andy Sumner, company secretary Peter McCall and group development director Jason Rowse-Davies will leave the business.
An email to staff from Montgomery said: "In the first weeks we have been greatly encouraged by the passion and quality of the team we have met.
