'Real palpable positivity' as GPs start to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine to over-85s


From early morning a steady stream of eager over-85s arrived for their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in scenes which left GP Dr Niall McNamara “exhilarated”.
The Keogh Practice in Waterford city had by lunchtime administered 150 first doses to patients, with a further 150 to be inoculated this afternoon and 72 more due tomorrow.
It was absolutely fantastic,” Dr McNamara said.
“It’s great finally have some real palpable positivity coming across to our patients and our staff and our colleagues. It has been a shot in the arm to all of us to be able to do this.

Joseph Power s sentence would be halted as soon as he managed to “purge” his contempt-of-court citation by paying the child support he owes, the judge said.
A Nova Scotia man who owes at least $250,000 in court-ordered child support has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison, capping a saga that saw him move to Denmark, be deported back to Canada and then arrested in Montreal on a nationwide warrant.
It appears to be among the longest terms for violating child-support orders ever handed out in Canada. ....

A Nova Scotia man who fled for five years to avoid paying some $500,000 in child support was handed a 4½-year sentence Tuesday for contempt of court and must pay his ex-wife what she s owed.
In rendering the sentence, Justice Elizabeth Jollimore of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court said Joseph Patrick Power has not accepted any responsibility and blames his situation on his former spouse.
I don t need to use adjectives like shameful, egregious, or flagrant to describe Mr. Power s behaviour, Jollimore said in her decision. ....

N.S. man who avoided $500K in child support is broke, lawyer tells court


Power was wanted on multiple warrants for contempt of court, both for failing to attend court and failing to pay child support payments dating back to 2014.
He was arrested last month in Montreal and returned to Nova Scotia to face sentencing. Power remains in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside.
To win his release, Power must purge his contempt of court by paying what he owes. 
Power s current wife, Tara Power, testified the family is living off her credit cards, and for a while lived without furniture in their Montreal apartment. 
She told the court her husband has been unable to obtain photo ID since his passport was seized for failure to make payments. Without an ID, he has been unable to get the specialized cardiology and hematology care he needs because he can t establish residency in Quebec. ....
