Octopus to deploy China transit pay card

Hong Kong-based payment operator Octopus Holdings is to launch a transit card for more than 300 cities in mainland China.
In a report in the South China Morning Post, Octopus CEO Angus Lee Chun-ming explains that transit card users will be able to pay for buses and in rail transit to ferries in mainland China by the end of 2021 or early next year. 
The company also wants to collaborate with contactless payment platforms in other Asian countries to establish a technology that will allow its e-wallet users in Hong Kong to pay for services in Macau, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. ....

EXPANSION: Octopus is extending use of its physical transit card to 300 cities in mainland China
Octopus users in Hong Kong will soon be able to pay for public transport fares in more than 300 cities in mainland China with a new physical transit card to be launched “by the end of this year or early next year”, according to a South China Morning Post (SCMP) report.
The move is part of an “offshore expansion plan” that will also see Octopus collaborating with “contactless payment platforms in several other Asian countries as it aims to launch an interconnected technology that will allow its e-digital wallet users in Hong Kong to pay for small transactions and services in Macau, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand,” SCMP stays. ....
