Coby, an 8-year-old Labrador retriever, had a special job bonding with at-risk animals at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
The zoo's animal health team made the decision to humanely euthanize Coby on Dec. 30 after his health significantly declined.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium said goodbye to Coby, known for his way with animals and humans, with a representative saying "Coby made everyone feel special."
Coby was born on June 22, 2013 and arrived at the zoo as a puppy.
The Columbus Zoo will appeal the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ decision to deny its accreditation, it announced Wednesday.
