The Kolkata Police have issued a warning to WhatsApp users about a scam starting with Facebook impersonation, which leads to victims' Facebook profiles being hacked, and which the scammers then leverage to dupe contacts into joining "yoga classes", through which the fraudsters ultimately get six-digit OTP codes which are actually verification codes for WhatsApp.
Frauds Hack FB Profiles: The investigators said that the accused then extorted their victims, asking them to invest in crypto-currency to get back access to their WhatsApp profiles.
WhatsApp account hacked: The fraudsters impersonated the user and told her contacts that she needed money to go to Odisha urgently.
A 45-year-old woman from Kolkata got in touch with the Cyber Cell to report that her WhatsApp account had been compromised, and that the scammers are pretending to be her and messaging her contacts asking for money.
