Wild deer in Polk and Trempealeau Counties have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said.
A deer killed by a hunter in Polk County, Wisconsin, has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), leading to a three-year ban on baiting and feeding in the county starting December 1. This is the first CWD detection in the county, requiring a renewal of the existing ban in neighboring Barron County as well. CWD is a fatal prion disease that affects deer, moose, and elk, spreading through saliva.
