Punjab vaccine drive for pregnant women gets tepid response, experts wary

Even as a number of pregnant women have lost their lives to Covid, a special vaccination drive launched for expectant mothers in Punjab has elicited a poor response.
As per official data, 58 pregnant women have died due to Covid since its outbreak last year. While 23 lost their lives till March 31 this year, another 35 succumbed to the virus in April and May.
A total of 3,707 such women were tested positive for Covid till March 31 and another about 1,600 since April 1.
As vaccination for pregnant women has started world over, the state government is also trying to give it a push. However, there seems to be some reluctance among expectant mothers, say experts. ....

I first met Bansi Kaul in 1978 on a summer afternoon in Amritsar. My father Gursharan Singh and poet Amarjit Chandan had invited him to lead a month-long theatre workshop for my father’s group, Amritsar Natak Kala Kendra. At the time, Bansi Kaul was on the faculty of the NSD and also a director in its repertory. These were early days in his illustrious journey.
The workshop was intended to facilitate the production of Dhamak Nagare Di, which went on to become a landmark in Punjabi theatre history. The storyline was decided in consultation with Amarjit Chandan, poet Shehryar and Sabinderjit Sagar of Guru Nanak Dev University. It was agreed that the play would be a period-drama based on the peasant rebellion of Dulla Bhatti against the excesses of the Mughal empire, juxtaposed against the contemporary crisis in the agrarian sector. ....

The Health and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today met injured farmers who were returning from Delhi.

Chandigarh: The Health and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today met injured farmers who were returning from Delhi.  These farmers belong to village Majatri and Rangian of  District Mohali.
Giving details, Health and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that these farmers were riding in a four-wheeler and had a collision with a tipper at Bhagomajra, Mohali.
