The head of the world's largest automaker joined other high-profile Tokyo Olympics sponsors on Wednesday in publicly criticizing the head of the country's Games committee for making sexist remarks.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics President Yoshiro Mori has incited anger at home and abroad with remarks last week that women talk too much, causing meetings to drag on. He has apologized but refused to resign.
"We are disappointed by the recent comments from the President of TOCOG (Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games), which are contrary to the values that Toyota respects and supports," Toyota Motor Corp President Akio Toyoda said.

Japanese politicians wear white in protest of Mori comments

Japan's female politicians wore white to a House of Representatives session to protest the sexist remarks made by Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori.
Members of the opposing Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan organised the protest, with politicians from the Japanese Communist Party and the Democratic Party for the People also participating.
According to
Kyodo News, the women wore white jackets with white roses on their lapels, an homage to the 20th century suffragette movement in the United States.
Their male colleagues showed solidarity by wearing white roses.
Members of the House of Councillors also wore white and attended the session as observers.

TOKYO, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Japan’s Olympic sponsors are scaling back advertising campaigns and delaying marketing events for this year’s Summer Games, concerned that public sentiment toward the event is souring amid a fresh wave of COVID-19.
Sponsors also worry that organisers have not told them what contingency plans there are in case the pandemic derails the Games again this year.
That uncertainty over the Olympics marks a fresh blow to domestic sponsors, including many of Japan’s biggest companies, such as Canon Inc and Japan Airlines Co Ltd, who have collectively pitched in more than $3 billion to support the event.
