Turkington was deemed to be at fault for the incident on lap one that saw Ash Sutton spin to the back of the field. The 17 second time penalty drops Turkington behind Sutton in the end results, but he will still carry ballast for fourth into race two.

Cook has never previously qualified on the front row at his home circuit in his six years in the BTCC to-date, but the 29-year-old has claimed half of his eight BTCC race wins at the Hampshire circuit.
