"At a time when there is an irresponsible Election Commission (EC) and negative politics is being played by the ruling party, the people of Assam will choose the path of guarantee of development and progress," the Congress general secretary said.
The Congress-led Opposition has been raising questions over the EC's neutrality and functioning in the Assam polls.
With the final phase of the assembly elections in Assam taking place on Tuesday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that at a time when there is an "irresponsible" Election Commission and negative politics is being played by the ruling BJP, the people of Assam will choose the path of guarantee of development and progress.

New Delhi: The third and the last phase of elections in Assam got underway at 7 am today, April 6. Voting will continue till 6 pm.
In this phase, the remaining 40 of the total 126 assembly seats would go for polling. In the 2016 polls, the two key contenders – the BJP and Congress – had pocketed 11 seats each of these 40 seats.

53.23% polling in Assam till 1:30 pm, highest voter turnout at Chirang


The third and final phase of the Assam Assembly elections in Assam recorded 53.23 per cent voter turnout till 1.30 pm on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission.'
While Chirang district registered the highest voter turnout with 59.17 per cent polling, Kamrup Metro witnessed the lowest voter turnout with 46.47 polling.
Among the 40 constituencies in the third phase, the Jalukbari constituency saw a turnout of 51 per cent, while Palasbari and Hajo seats have witnessed 60.24 and 60.93 per cent polling respectively.
The Sidli constituency has recorded a voter turnout of 59.17 per cent so far.
Pollings in the tea-garden state of Assam began on Tuesday morning with security arrangements in place.

Dispur (Assam) [India], April 6 (ANI): The third and final phase of the Assam election witnessed a voter turnout of 78.29 per cent till 5:20 pm on Tuesday, the Election Commission said.
South Salmara district registered the highest voter turnout with 88.59 per cent polling, while Kamrup Metro witnessed the lowest voter turnout with 60.34 per cent polling.
The Mankachar constituency recorded the highest voter turnout with 87.66 percent polling, while the Gauhati East recorded the lowest voter turnout with 55 per cent polling.
Polling in the tea-garden state of Assam began on Tuesday morning with security arrangements in place.

5 poll officials suspended after 181 votes cast in Assam booth that has 90 voters

GUWAHATI: Five polling personnel were suspended in Assam after it emerged that 181 votes were cast in a booth that had 90 eligible voters.
The incident was reported from the 107(A) Khothlir Lower Primary School polling booth in the Haflong Assembly segment. The Dima Hasao District Election Officer ordered a re-poll in the booth.
It was an auxiliary polling station of the main voting centre at Mouldam Lower Primary School. The incident came to the fore on April 4, two days after polling was held in the booth.
Some villagers had reportedly come with their own list of voters and refused to accept the official voters’ list. The constituency had recorded 74% voting as against the statewide average of 80.96%.
