Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Tuesday as members loyal to both factions of speakers held separate sittings at different locations. SaharaReporters reported on October 30, that the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), created tension and reached a crescendo in Rivers State with the plot by members of the State House of Assembly to impeach the governor.

  The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has offered an apology to the people of the state over the recent political crisis in the state. He described the crisis as “regrettable anxieties of the last few days,” saying it was important to make sacrifices for peace to reign. Fubara stated this in a release titled, “Peace is priceless”, which he posted on Saturday on his X platform and obtained by newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

  Human rights advocate, Omoyele Sowore, has described the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike as crooked a son and father who have depleted the state’s treasury.   Wike is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.   Sowore who made this known on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday stated that Governor Fubara assisted Wike in looting Rivers’ treasury.  

President Bola Tinubu has intervened to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Wike is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Tinubu spoke to Wike and Fubara to “douse tensions,” Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State disclosed after the Nigeria Police Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday. SaharaReporters reported on Monday that there was a crisis in the Rivers Assembly amidst plans to impeach Fubara.
