PM Imran Khan convenes Prime Minister Imran Khan convened a meeting of the political committee Monday afternoon, with federal ministers Pervez Khattak, Shafqat Mahmood, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry expected to attend, sources said.
National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, too, will attend the meeting as a member of the committee, the sources said.

The opposition on Monday came down hard on the federal government after the prime minister preferred to address the nation on the ongoing protests via television rather than addressing the parliament and the interior minister excused himself from issuing a policy statement on the crisis.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Friday asked the government to table a joint resolution in the Lower House in consultation with all opposition parties on the matter of ban imposed on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and the recent violent incidents by the religious party in different parts of the country.

LAHORE: Leaders from across the political spectrum, several civil society members and cultural bodies mourned the loss of the country’s most prolific and iconic journalist and a long-time human rights champion, Ibn Abdur Rehman, commonly known as I.A. Rehman, who passed away here on Monday morning.
Rehman sahib was 90 and suffering from various health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
The HRCP, in a statement, said it was devastated at the loss of its honorary spokesperson and former secretary general. Rehman served as the commission’s director from 1990 to 2008 before being elected its secretary general in 2008 a post he held till 2016. He was also a co-founder of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy, a bureau member of South Asians for Human Rights and former chairperson of the South Asian Forum for Human Rights. ....

ISLAMABAD: A plane carrying Pakistan s Parliament Speaker and a delegation of lawmakers was not allowed to land in Kabul and was turned back due to security reasons after explosives, apparently years old, were found buried near the airport.
National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser was heading a nine-member parliamentary delegation to Kabul for a three-day visit on the special invitation of Speaker of Afghan Wolesi Jirga Mir Rehman Rehmani.
A spokesperson for the speaker said that Qaiser along with the delegation had departed for Kabul from the Islamabad International Airport as per schedule but when their aircraft was still in the air, the delegation members were informed that Kabul airport had been closed due to some “security reasons”, the Dawn News reported. ....
