Police detain 28 in raid on gambling syndicate call centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 28 individuals, including four Chinese nationals, in a raid on an illegal gambling syndicate s call centre located at a luxury apartment in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the apartment at Jalan Stonor at about 4pm on Wednesday (July 28).
Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said police raided three units at the apartment used as call centres.
We detained 20 local men, four local women and four Chinese nationals – three women and a man – during the raids. Those detained were aged between 18 and 45.
We seized an array of items including 35 mobile phones, eight laptops and 15 computers from the apartments, he said when contacted on Thursday (July 29). ....

28 busted over illegal birthday bash at condo

KUALA LUMPUR: A birthday bash at a luxury condominium here turned into a birthday bust for a group of revellers when police gatecrashed the party, leading to the arrests of 28 people.
Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said 16 men and 12 women aged between 21 and 63 were detained during the raid conducted at about 12.50am yesterday.
“We also seized a few packets believed to contain ketamine as well as condoms.
“Seven men and four women tested positive for drugs,” he said at the site of the raid.
ACP Nasri said police would also issue compound notices to the owner of the residency unit and the agent who arranged for the unit to be rented. ....
