Droughts that have troubled South and East China since November will be alleviated by heavy rains that arrived on Tuesday.
The National Meteorological Center has forecast frequent rain till the end of the month that it says will ease or vanquish droughts in the provinces of Yunnan, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Fujian, and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Since October, the areas have experienced 40 to 70 percent less rainfall than normal, depleting reservoirs, the center said.
In January, water supplies for hotels, road-watering vehicles and companies were reduced in Yueqing, Zhejiang, due to the drought, China Central Television reported. ....

Baidu Introduces Multi-Modal Autonomous Driving MaaS Platform In Guangzhou
BEIJING (dpa-AFX) - Baidu Inc. (BIDU) said that it deployed a multi-modal autonomous driving MaaS or mobility as a service platform that will provide AI-driven city transportation services in Guangzhou.
The initiative will allow local users to order smart transport services on demand, starting in the Chinese New Year holiday period. The implementation of both Baidu Apollo and the ACE Transportation Engine is a testament to the promising commercialization prospects of smart transportation in the intelligent era, the company said.
Baidu said it will continue conducting regular trial operations by additionally deploying over 100 Robotaxis and establishing almost 1,000 pickup stations in Guangzhou Huangpu District. ....

DETROIT (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp and longtime supplier partner Denso Corp will team up with self-driving car startup Aurora to develop and build autonomous minivans for ride hailing networks, the companies said on Tuesday.
