national campaign manager alice stewart to try to put this hastily together. still setting up this particular venue. this is the venue where the caucus reception was for the bachmann campaign last night. as noted at the top of the hour the national campaign manager for the the bachmann campaign suggested getting out of the race may be a course she may want to consider. sarah palin said something similar on the air last night, while she was complimentary of congresswoman s bachmann s effort and her role in her campaign that her best role may be back in the house as a u.s. congressman from minnesota. if you read voices and body language it does look like the decision is made to discontinue the campaign, but that is just a sense i get, not something official i get from the campaign. jamie: we could know in less than an hour, thanks so much, steve brown, live in des moines. bill: as we await bachmann s big
casey. he talked to john mccain. come to pennsylvania. help me establish my moderate credentials come campaign for me. he did. he honored that request. he campaigned for him. santorum s campaign made little reference to george w. bush in the final month of that campaign. made great mention of john mccain. made his endorsement on the website. mccain felt burned by santorum. bill: that is interesting. there is so much history between all these men. 15 seconds or less. how is the romney team feeling now six days ahead of new hampshire s primary bring? i think they re both happy and sad. on the one hand they re happy rick perry and newt gingrich either out of the race or severely damaged. i think they re in a sense pleased to be focused with what looks like a won one one battle. on the other hand rick santorum came out of nowhere. he is surging. he clearly has momentum. he has low expectations in new hampshire. if he does well there he will be exceeding those expectations and then
jamie: the next stop, new hampshire. mitt romney s campaign looking forward to the contest there. it is nearly his home turf. congressman jason chaffetz has been stumping for romney and he joining us now. great to see you, sir. thanks for being with us. good morning. jamie: you have been really an ardent supporter for mitt romney. how are you feeling this morning? hey, fired up. the expectation was, hey we wanted mitt romney came in the top three. he came in the top spot. rick santorum had a great night too but move on to new hampshire. the romney campaign was always set up to be a national campaign. he has got the organization, he has the money, more importantly he has the message. people recognize with his strong family and family values he has the right message. he is right person to beat barack obama. jamie: but how is the message that he will want to share with the folks in new hampshire differ from what he had to say in iowa?
things. he canceled campaign stops he had scheduled for today in south carolina, home of the third in the nation contest. with the voters decision tonight in iowa, i decided to return to texas, assess the results of tonight s caucus, determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race. jamie: well the perry campaign spokesman said thursday would be the earliest any decision could be made. how about newt gingrich? finishing fourth in iowa but the former house speaker telling his supporters he looks forward to a great debate in the republican party, offering his congrats to rick santorum. i want to take just a minute and congratulate a good friend of ours, somebody who i admire and whose family we admire that is rick santorum. he waged a great, positive campaign. [applause] i served with rick. we ve had a great relationship over the years.
the nomination and win? the more and more people get to know mitt romney his family and his wife ann and these great wonderful kids but his message of success and how we ll turn the economy around. he spent a considerable amount of time campaigning in lots of different states. iowa was one of them. but as he met i was on the bus with him. we met from stop to stop to stop. he stalked about a need for strong national defense but spent most of the time talking about how to get the country back on its financial footing. right now it is totally unsustainable and everybody knows that. a lot of candidates were comparing and contrasting themselves to other republicans you see mitt romney trying to take on the president. people look at debates that have happened they have been consensus that mitt romney has won those. people will see that mitt romney is in the best position to beat barack obama. jamie: congressman, i have to leave it there. very good to see you this morning. thank you. jami
