A North Cork county councillor has slammed Irish Water for their ongoing failure to address problems at local waste water treatment plants that has resulted in raw sewage being discharged into the River Blackwater. In its annual Urban Wastewater Treatment Report published last month the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prioritised more than a dozen towns and villages across the county, many of them in North Cork, where Irish Water must improve treatment facilities to protect the freshwater pearl mussel.
