As a young boy, every holiday season Doug Taylor of Bexley had his picture taken with Santa Claus at Freedlander s Department Store on West Liberty Street. The annual trip to the store in downtown Wooster was always a popular holiday activity for area youngsters.
I remember, wrote the 1958 Wooster High School graduate, the line to Santa s throne used to stretch all the way across the store’s overhead walkway.
How cool was that? he asked. Oh, and of course sitting on Santa s lap on the store s second floor. I m convinced there was no cooler Santa than the Freedlander Santa. ....
