Claim charging for parking at two Musselburgh car parks would be 'another stealth tax'

THE possibility of extending beach parking charges to include two currently exempt car parks – at Back Sands and Levenhall Links, Musselburgh – has been branded “another stealth tax”.
A ban on overnight parking at coastal car parks and action on irresponsible camping are among plans to limit problems associated with increased visitors to East Lothian.
East Lothian Council has launched a Land Management Review after a year in which record numbers of tourists descended on beauty spots.
The report says: “During development of the original coastal car park order, consideration of parking charges was made at Back Sands, and Levenhall Links, Musselburgh. Owing to significant investment costs and focus on beach parking, this was deferred.
