A proposal by a family fuel business in Ridgefield now calls for a petroleum and natural gas storage and distribution yard at 82 Payne Road in Danbury. The border between Bethel and Danbury runs down the middle of Payne Road. On the Danbury side, the properties are all zoned heavy industrial. According to numbers released on Thursday by the state Department of Labor, Connecticut had job growth in November… but it was “modest” to say the least. In October, the state released an estimate for November to add 3,700 jobs. That estimate was revised downward to 3,400. The final number did show growth, but it was much less than originally expected. An estimated 500 new jobs were added statewide. Meanwhile, statistics point to the state’s unemployment rate holding at 3.6 percent.

Governor Ned Lamont is directing $10.7 million in federal funding toward Connecticut’s energy efficiency programs that help provide weatherization, energy retrofits, and rebates to Connecticut residents. In 2021, the programs – also known as the EnergizeCT programs – generated more than $62 million in savings for Connecticut residents and businesses. Thanks to a $600,000 state grant, the Danbury Community Center is getting a badly needed new roof. The money comes from the State Bond Commission, which has approved the grant to replace the roof of the more than 50 year old Danbury Community Center on Boughton St. It’s the site of the city’s only public swimming pool that will be the place where free swim lessons will be available for 700 low income youth.

The U.S. Marshals over the weekend, nabbed a man in Arizona who was wanted in connection to a fatal shooting in Connecticut. 29 year old Devante Swaby was being sought as a suspect in a shooting that took the life of 31 year old Timothy Ross of Bloomfield. Ross was taken into custody by the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Peoria, Arizona, where he had fled following the shooting. He is now awaiting extradition back to Connecticut to face charges including including murder, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of an assault weapon, and weapons in a...
