Vedanta Resources has appointed Chris Griffith, a South African mining veteran, to lead its base metals unit, which includes the recently regained Zambian copper mines. Griffith previously served as the CEO of Gold Fields and played a significant role in restructuring Anglo American Platinum. He will be responsible for overseeing Vedanta's zinc mines in Namibia and South Africa, its iron ore business in Liberia, and processing businesses in the Middle East and India.

"Vedanta Resources today announced the appointment of Chris Griffith, former CEO of Gold Fields, one of the largest producers of gold in the world, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Base Metals & President of its International Businesses," the statement said. In his new role as CEO for Base Metals, Chris Griffith will assume responsibility for steering both Vedanta Zinc International and Vedanta Copper businesses, it added.

Chris Griffith will be in charge of Vedanta Resources’ iron ore business in Liberia, zinc business in Namibia and South Africa, and all the copper businesses, including Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) in Zambia and Sterlite Copper in India.
