Bundaberg is one of the first in Queensland to receive the upgrades and benefit from more reliable and accessible positioning technology.
Speaking in a Greensill Farming shed today, federal Member for Hinkler and Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keith Pitt said the improvements would help increase productivity and open up new economic opportunities.
“GNSS ground station data from stations like the one in Bundaberg make it possible to get reliable and precise positioning down from around 10m to just 3cm accuracy in areas of mobile phone coverage,” Mr Pitt said. ....

Nigerian Communication Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT), the Agency for Air Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) and Thales Alenia Space are joining efforts to accelerate Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) development for aviation and other sectors of the economy in Nigeria and in Africa.
The objective of this development is to improve communication, surveillance and safety in Nigeria and Africaâs airspace.
Thales Alenia Space is a joint venture between Thales (76% and Leonardo (33%), which is bringing the latest surveillance technology to the regionâs airspace, while NIGCOMSAT and ASECNA would provide the funds.
Satellite Based Augmentation System is the augmentation of a global navigation satellite system, which is a method of improving the navigation system’s attributes, such as accuracy, reliability, and availability, through the integration of external information into the calculation process. ....
