RAPAPORT. Baselworld will return primarily as a business-to-business platform targeting the mid-range luxury segment, with live events supplementing a digital platform, organizer MCH Group said.
MCH will launch the digital platform this fall, and will premiere its live events with a popup in Geneva from August 30 to September 3. The main Basel 2022 show will take place from March 31 to April 4 so the dates will be aligned with other industry trade fairs in Geneva, it said last week.
“After the [coronavirus] pandemic had stalled Baselworld over the last two years, we took a lot of time to talk to our partners and exhibitors,” explained Michel Loris-Melikoff, the fair’s managing director. “One thing became very clear: The Baselworld brand must remain, but it must fundamentally change.” ....

RAPAPORT. Three weeks in March 2020 underscored how fast the situation could change during Covid-19. On the third of the month, JCK announced that its annual Las Vegas shows would take place as usual in late May and early June, despite the outbreak. On the 17th of the month, it called them off.
What happened in between was unprecedented. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus a pandemic on March 11. US industry events got canceled. Diamond bourses around the world started to close their trading halls. And the state of Nevada ordered all nonessential businesses to close to the public for 30 days, forcing JCK’s hand. ....

Watches and Wonders will proceed with a ‘phygital’ strategy for 2021 starting with a digital-only event followed by a physical show in Shanghai days later.
The watch trade show previously known as SIHH, took place in Geneva in January for press, retailers and VIP customers in recent years focusing on the luxury end of the watch market and was made up of predominantly Richemont-owned brands along with a selection of invited high-end independent brands.
It was one of the two biggest events in the watch industry’s calendar, the other being the bigger, 100+ year-old Baselworld. But as Baselworld’s reputation crumbled (with high prices and complacency on the part of the organizers often cited as the reason behind its demise) SIHH saw a swell in the number of brands wanting to exhibit, which in turn put pressure on its staging as the more boutique of the two shows. ....

UPDATED: The 2021 editions of the JCK Las Vegas and JCK Luxury trade shows will shift from June to August due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, organiser Reed Jewelry Group has confirmed.
In a statement, Sarin Bachmann, group vice-president, JCK & Luxury/Reed Jewelry Group, explained that the decision was made in response to “candid feedback” from the jewellery industry.
“After a year without an opportunity for the jewellery community to gather together, it is important to JCK to facilitate an in-person event in the most positive and safe way possible ....
