R999 social grant for unemployed South Africans does not exist, only a proposal
Social media users allege that the South African government has introduced a new basic income grant of R999 ($57) for the unemployed. The posts also feature a logo of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). But the claim is misleading: the grant is actually a proposal by the opposition GOOD party. SASSA told AFP Fact Check that the information was false and did not originate from them.
