More than 67 million people had registered to vote in nationwide elections for more than 336,000 local positions.

AT least 10 people were killed and three schools were burned down in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Monday as millions voted in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

As the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) marred parts of Mindanao with bloodshed, candidates and supporters alike fell victim to the violence. In one incident, a candidate for barangay captain was killed by his own brother, who is also running for the same post. In another incident, two persons were killed, while four others were wounded in a shooting incident. Tensions ran high and voting was disrupted in several areas as a result of the violence.

Police say the areas of grave security concern in the BARMM are mostly in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and the region's Special Geographic Area (SGA) in Cotabato province

The 1st Infantry Division (ID) has activated the Election Monitoring Action Center (Emac) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023. The Emac is to ensure a safe and credible BSKE 2023. The 1ID has activated a provisional battalion and the higher headquarters has provided deployment of two Division Reconnaissance Companies (DRCs) to augment as additional security forces.
