MUMBAI: Seven years after a 37-year-old accountant died after being knocked off his bike and run over by a dumper truck at Powai, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has granted his family a compensation of around Rs1.1crore. The tribunal said the fact that the dumper truck driver fled the spot without providing medical aid to the victim, Santosh More, showed he was guilty. More had an annual income of Rs 3.5 lakh. The compensation was calculated under various heads, including loss of future prospects, losses suffered by family members, hospital and funeral expenses, etc. More’s wife Rupali and two daughters, one of whom was 18 months old at the time of his death, had submitted the claim in September 2013. Santosh’s mother, Madhuri, too, was part of the claim. His father died during its pendency and his name was deleted. ....
