The Norfork Police Department and Baxter County Sheriff's Office issued a missing person alert Wednesday afternoon for a 60-year-old Norfork man.

The Donald W. Reynolds library announced the winners of its Little House on the Prairie Short Story Contest on Friday. The contest was open to children and adult residents of Baxter County and surrounding areas. With an aim to bring literary enthusiasts together to explore the rich world of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic stories, participants were encouraged to craft short stories that resonate with the spirit of the Little House on the Prairie series.

Seventy-five Arkansas schools have been selected to receive $2,500 each from Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield to open "calming rooms" on their campuses for use by students who need to de-stress or otherwise regulate their emotions.

Baxter County is home to more than 2,000 veterans, and one of those who served is choosing to give back to his own and assist them in the local Veteran Service Office.
