So what he saw was the standing water right beneath the area that that report flagged. and you then took all this information, sarah, i know you spoke to an engineer and concrete restaurant expert about these details and asked directly could this have contributed to the collapse? what did they tell you? what s pictured they told me was alarming, but the important thing to remember is that that picture is actually of an area that is along the south side of the building s lower level. the part that collapsed is the north side of the building. so what is pictured didn t actually collapse. the two concerns are this, one, if other structural slabs and other beams look like what is in that picture and other parts of the building where there is more weight on top of it where the actual 12-story structure sits on top of it, the expert i spoke to said that absolutely could have been a reason for a collapse. ....

CNN The Lead With Jake Tapper June 4, 2024 21:14:00

The numbers are not running in their favor at this point. it why is a pancaked buildin more difficult than other types of building collapses? because in the past when i ve covered earthquakes and things like that, this is the problem. if you have an a-frame collapse where parts are standing up here and you have other beams and floors that create voids, there are places for people to possibly survive, there are places for rescuers to get in. the same if you have a v-shaped collapse or a lean-to collapse. these are dangerous because that can collapse on rescuers. any one of these gives you room in which to work. that is not what you have with a pancake collapse. with this basically you might see a failure somewhere down in here that causes the whole building to start coming down like this. and the important thing to remember is when it s done, you wind up with basically ....

Standard report that we do for the buildings here. this is a very unique situation. and this building is relatively young. it was built in the 80s. so what s interesting here is that i was 18 years old. i was in high school, when this building was being designed and built. what we have here is we have an opportunity to really take these reports in to the next level. we have the technology. we can do infrared. we can do all kinds of sonar testing behind the concrete. and see what the real, true condition of the beams and the slabs are behind the cracks. and behind the separations. you and i know this area very well, from miami beach, to you know, to hear, all the way up to hollywood, florida, and beyond. there are hundreds of similar buildings all along the ocean. should all of them be tested along those lines? i truly believe we should test them all. it would make sense. it would give everybody a peace of mind to relax. and really, understand the true ....
