Manatee County has a new tool to clean our waterways and fight against red tide.

It’s an ideal place for a quiet day at the beach but keep in mind there are no public bathrooms, parking lots or lifeguards on duty at Bean Point. Fortunately, it’s within walking distance of the historic Rod and Reel Pier (875 N. Shore Drive), a great spot for a cold beverage, a fresh grouper sandwich or, yes, a clean restroom.

The Nature Conservancy and other conservation groups have added several new trails to the Greenway system over the years. Deer hunting takes place on weekdays only, so enjoy the Greenway Trails on weekends, and the seashore during the week. Note: Hunters selected by state lottery will be in the Rodman’s Hollow/Black Rock area on Tuesdays through Fridays, until February 12. There will also be hunting on town land between Bean Point and West Beach Road on weekdays through Feb. 26. It’s great weather to go out and explore new places. Remember to wear blaze orange! Anna Maria Island is settling into a wintertime fishing pattern, including frequent cold fronts. Picking days to head out on the water may prove challenging as we face many winter days of strong winds and rough seas. This being said, watch the weather forecasts and narrow trips to the warmest days with the least wind. If you’re strictly an inshore angler, this isn’t quite as crucial, as it’s fairly easy to get around and avoid the cold wind in the backcountry. But, if you’re planning on getting out in the Gulf of Mexico, you’ll want to pay close attention to conditions.
