Scientists baffled by increase in whale strandings
Scientists continue to investigate the unusual increase in whale strandings, with more than seven recorded cetacean beachings this month, including three neonate humpback whales in the last 11 days. Chintsa residents were devastated to find a baby humpback whale swimming in shallow water on Tuesday, and after multiple attempts to guide the whale back into the deep, the day-old calf kept returning to shore, washed onto the rocks and was humanely euthanised.
