A former student who was given a suspended prison sentence and told to read classic literature after being convicted of a terrorism offence has now been jailed.
Ben John, 22, has been sentenced to an immediate prison term after the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP personally presented the case at the Court of Appeal.
The verdicts cannot be overturned and the defendants retried without new evidence being presented. But Attorney General Suella Braverman is “carefully considering” referring it to the Court of Appeal to “clarify the law for future cases.”
Ben John was given a two-year suspended sentence in August last year.
