Cardinals Reliever Giovanny Gallegos Had His Hat Confiscated, Manager Mike Shildt Got Tossed

The White Sox and Cardinals are in a tight one (with Cubs implications!), and with runners on first and second with just one out in the bottom of the 7th, Cards manager Mike Shildt called upon Giovanny Gallegos to put out the fire. But before Gallegos could even throw a pitch, he had to go through a wardrobe change – umpire Joe West made Gallegos change his hat (it was confiscated for some reason). Shildt didn’t appreciate it, said as much, and was sent packing: Joe West noticed a substance on the bill of Giovanny Gallegos' hat & made him change hats.

Tony La Russa Says Yermin Mercedes Made a Mistake Swinging 3-0, Says There Will Be "Consequences"

Are you effing kidding me? I mean, we knew this kinda shit was coming, but I really didn’t think it would be this level of borderline parody. As background, breakout, out-of-nowhere, fun hitter Yermin Mercedes is having the season of a lifetime, and yesterday, with the White Sox routing the Twins, he decided to swing on a 3-0 pitch from position player Willians Astudillo. Mercedes crushed it. People complained about the count or the situation or some other stupid thing: 3-0 bomb from Yermin Mercedes off of a position player! Announcer: “I don’t like it. Up 15-4. I don’t like it”

Luis Robert Leaves Game With Right Hip Flexor Strain

Luis Robert Shut Down For 12-16 Weeks With Grade 3 Hip Flexor Strain 5:05pm CDT MAY 3, 5:05pm: Robert has a Grade 3 hip flexor strain, which is a complete tear, general manager Rick Hahn told Scott Merkin of MLB.com and other reporters. The White Sox will determine how to proceed with Robert in the coming days, but they announced he’ll go 12 to 16 weeks without baseball activities. That would seem to put Robert’s season in jeopardy, but they’re not ready to rule out a return yet. 4:31pm: Robert will sit out for “an extended period of time,” Bruce Levine of 670 The Score tweets. The...

Outside The Confines: No no-no? Oh no! - Vimarsana News

Outside The Confines: No no-no? Oh no!

Outside The Confines: No no-no? Oh no! Share this story Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images Ah, major league rule changes, aren’t they fun? This season, in order to expedite game times, MLB maintained the rule that all doubleheader games would be played as two seven-inning games rather than nine-inning games. These seven-inning games would be considered complete in terms of MLB game rules. Except one thing no one considered when establishing this new rule was what would happen if a pitcher threw a no-hitter during one of those league-mandated seven-inning games. On Sunday night, that turne...

Outside The Confines: Suspension upheld for Nick Castellanos - Vimarsana News

Outside The Confines: Suspension upheld for Nick Castellanos

Outside The Confines: Suspension upheld for Nick Castellanos Share this story Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty Images I normally don’t question suspensions too much. Usually if something leads to a bench-clearing brawl, there’s any kind of violence involved, or general bad behavior is afoot, there’s typically cause for some kind of suspension. The problem is that no one can seem to agree on what a suitable suspension should be. Does the punishment always fit the crime, or are suspensions largely arbitrary? In the case of Nick Castellanos’ two-game suspension for being too enthusiastic aft...
