Those were the two benchmarks coming into this. what republicans were hoping for was not necessarily to win. this they would ve been thrilled to win the seat. but what republicans were hoping for more realistically was for a race that was closer than these two numbers. maybe substantially closer than these two numbers. they were hoping, potentially, for a single digit race because of course you can remember. this one the she was on the other foot for democrats and republicans, back when donald trump was president. he had the special elections, 2017, 2018, for this pattern emerged. democrats were doing substantially better and those special elections and they had in the presidential election. what was that? a signify. or a port of the 2018 midterm wave that was to come for democrats that got them back and control of the house. republicans, now that biden is president, were hoping that this special election would give them something comparable. it would give them a result, or even if you ....
