The happenings in BJP-ruled Karnataka as the " hijab controversy" is misleading. It is nothing of the kind. It is an outright assault on the right to education of young Muslim women, guaranteed to them by the law and the Constitution of India.
At least three major incidents have been reported from Karnataka since January where students have been denied entry into the premises of educational institutions for wearing 'hijab'.
'Ma Saraswati doesn't differentiate'
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has tweeted on the controversy over Muslim students' demand for wearing the hijab in classrooms in a Karnataka college.
The students, who were all between the ages of 18 and 20, wanted to know why the administration had prohibited the hijab despite the fact that it was permitted under the school guidelines.
