P9.7-M marijuana seized from 2 suspects in Bulacan town

(Photo courtesy of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office) CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan - Some PHP9.7 million worth of marijuana were seized from two drug suspects during an anti-illegal drug operation in Balagtas, this province Sunday afternoon. In his report on Monday, Col. Charlie Cabradilla, acting provincial director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, said operatives of Balagtas Municipal Police Station conducted an operation in Barangay Santol that resulted in the arrest of Mark Lambert Bhobe, 31, a resident of Meycuayan City, and Angelo Llagas, 27, of the City of San Jose del Monte, this province. Seized from the two suspects were 81 pieces of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops weighing 81 kilograms and with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP9.7 million and PHP5,000 marked money. Appropriate charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act) are being readied against the two suspects for court referral. Meanwhile, five other drug suspects were arrested Sunday in separate operations in this province. Cabradilla identified them as Jose Oliver Mercado, a resident of Barangay Malipampang, San Ildefonso; Jonathan Villafuerte of Barangay Maasim, San Ildefonso; Gemar Naliatan of Barangay Niugan, Angat; Arnold Zaldy Talastas Jr. of Binang 2nd, Bocaue; and Benjie Agbay of Barangay Inaon, Pulilan town. A total of 10 sachets of suspected shabu, two sachets of dried marijuana leaves, and buy-bust money were confiscated during the operations. Brig. Gen. Colonel Manuel M. Lukban Jr., acting provincial director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, identified the arrested suspect as Christian San Juan, a resident of Binang 1st, Bocaue town. Lukban said operatives of Bocaue Municipal Police Station arrested San Juan in a buy-bust operation and confiscated from him were packs of "pla-pla" and buy-bust money. Lukban reminded the public of the penalties for those who will be caught in violation of Executive Order 28 and Republic Act 7183, which include a fine of PHP20,000-PHP30,000, imprisonment of six months to one year, cancellation of license and business permit, and confiscation of inventory stocks. Meanwhile, Brig. General Matthew Baccay, regional director of the Police Regional Office -3, appealed to the public to refrain from using illegal firecrackers to avoid injuries. "Instead of using firecrackers, we could all welcome the New Year with other forms of merriment to ensure a safe and healthy celebration of the holiday festivity," Baccay said in social media post. He said the entire police force in Central Luzon is continuously on standby to ensure the safe and peaceful celebration of the New Year. He also reminded the public not to get scared in reporting to authorities anybody who will fire a gun whether policeman or civilian. (PNA) }
