Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL) on Monday announced that it will invest Rs 700 crore to set up a new animal vaccine manufacturing facility in Genome Valley, Hyderabad.
The vaccine is an investigational 14-valent pediatric pneumococcal vaccine named as polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (PCV14) against Streptococcus pneumoniae infection in single dose and multi dose presentations.
The price of Corbevax for private COVID-19 vaccination centres is Rs 250, inclusive of the Goods and Sales tax. For the end-user, the price of the vaccine is Rs 400, including taxes and administrative charges.
Corbevax was also approved by the Union Health Ministry as a heterologous COVID-19 booster dose under emergency use authorization for individuals aged 18 years and above after 6 months of administration of primary vaccination (two doses) of Covaxin or Covishield, the company said.
This is for the first time that a booster dose that is different from the one used for primary vaccination against Covid has been allowed in the country.
