Central drug regulator cracks down on FDCs

In 2012, a parliamentary standing committee of the health ministry had observed in its report that some of the state licensing authorities issued manufacturing licences for a large number of FDCs without prior clearance from the central drug authority, resulting in the availability of several FDCs which were not tested for safety and efficacy.

Drug regulator halts production at 76 units over poor standards

More than 75% of the firms have also been issued show cause notices, the people said. Out of the total samples drawn from these manufacturing units, 15.1% have so far been declared to be of not of standard quality (NSQ). The regulator is currently conducting Phase IV of these inspections.
