hello and welcome to westminster. conservative mps will cast their first vote today for who they want to replace borisjohnson as party leader and prime minister. let s take a closer look at the timetable for today.there are eight candidates through to the first round of voting each one of them needs to secure 30 votes today to stay in the race. the poll opens at 1:30 the electorate is made up of conservative mps. we are expecting a result at about five o clock. to be announced, as before, by graham brady, the chairman of the conservative backbench 1922 committee. further votes will take place over the next few days in order to whittle the number of candidates down to two. let s get more from our political correspondent ione wells. i can report that we have eight candidates, duly nominated. and then there were eight. one of these candidates will be the next prime minister, having secured the backing of at least 20 tory mps. the former chancellor, rishi sunak, the attor ....
