On February 19, the Kolkata police arrested secretary of party youth wing Pamela Goswami on charges of possession of about 90 grams of cocaine in the New Alipore area. Ms. Goswami had said she was being framed by Mr. Singh. “I want CID to probe the matter. Mr. Singh, who is close to Kaliash Vijayvargiya, is behind all this,” she told journalists while being produced before the court on February 20. The police had sent a notice to Mr. Singh under Section 160 of Cr.P.C. but he refused to present himself before them. The day witnessed dramatic developments with a huge contingent arriving at his residence in Kidderpore area. For hours, the police personnel were not allowed to enter the house. ....

The leader and his two sons were detained after the Calcutta High Court dismissed a petition filed by him, seeking a stay on the notice issued to him by Kolkata Police. Singh s lawyers had submitted that at least 26 cases have been lodged against the BJP leader after he joined the BJP, alleging he was being hounded because of his political affiliation. However, Advocate General Kishore Datta, appearing for the state of West Bengal, said that 56 cases were pending against Singh before he joined the BJP and that there was no political connection in the matter. ....
