BLOOMFIELD Bloomfield assistant fire Chief David Peterson was recognized for being a hero by township officials following his efforts last month that saved an 8-month-old.
Township trustees on Monday presented Peterson a proclamation and special pin noting his work on a squad call on March 11 in which the child was unconscious and not breathing at a local home.
Trustee Chairman Rich Viney said Peterson responded to the call for a life-threatening situation.
“He was at home that evening and responded with the fire department to an 8-month-old not breathing. Dave Peterson got to the home of the caller and found the lifeless child in the arms of his mother, and he began performing CPR. By doing this, when the ambulance arrived the child had a heartbeat and was breathing on his own,” he said. ....
