BMC Election in February only if Covid situation permits: Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar
Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has informed that the next Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls will be held in January-February next year. Pednekar, however, said that polls will be conducted only if the Covid-19 situation is under control.
"BMC polls will be conducted next year in January-February if the COVID situation is under control, in case it's not, polls will be postponed," she said.
The State Election Commission (SEC) had on Monday directed the BMC to start preliminary preparation for the civic polls. The BMC election department had written a letter to the SEC seeking instructions for pre-poll preparatory works.

Shiv Sena coins 'Uddhav aapda' line to woo Gujaratis for BMC polls | Mumbai News

CM Uddhav Thackeray
MUMBAI: Keeping aside its 'Marathi manoos' agenda, the Shiv Sena, which is aiming to win the 2022 BMC polls, has coined a new slogan 'Mumbai ma Jalebi na fafda, Uddhav Thackeray aapda' ('There's jalebi and fafda in Mumbai, and there's Uddhav Thackeray, who is our own') in order to woo Gujarati voters, especially those from the western suburbs.
The BMC elections, scheduled in February 2022, are important for the Sena which has ruled India's richest civic body for over two decades. However, in the last BMC polls in 2017, the Sena and BJP, which were together in the state government at that time, contested separately and the difference was just 2 seats, with the Sena getting 84 and BJP 82. In the 2019 assembly polls, both contested as part of the ruling alliance in the state, and the BJP won 15 assembly seats and Sena 14 in Mumbai. There are 36 assembly constituencies in Mumbai in all.
