"Everyone wants to say pigs are clean, pigs are smart. They absolutely are. But what also comes with that intelligence is the need to be stimulated. They have to be entertained,” said Jenna Scheich, a pet pig owner who urged the council to proceed with caution before adopting the ordinance.
According to the new ordinance, a pet pig could not exceed 200 pounds and would be subject to the same nuisance codes that are in place for other pet animals such as dogs.
“They are very smart. They will never chase your wildlife or hurt anybody,” she said of her pet pig, Bruce.
“We are excited to bring this turn-key event venue to Mitchell. We will have shuttles, offer food catering and beverages to host a wide range of events,” Austen Iverson said of his plans to turn the property into an event venue.
