People lined the streets with umbrellas and rain jackets. Police and fire departments drove by blasting their sirens and tossing out candy.Sign up for our Newsletters People embraced the elements to make sure the parade happened today. “The other alternative was to postpone it to next weekend, which then wouldn’t really be the Fourth, so it wouldn’t be Independence Day,” Bob Mantegari said. Organizers said rain will not stop them next year either, they are already hoping for sunshine.

Town newsletter s racist op-ed divides Brentwood, NH board

Selectmen announced the meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Recreation Center on Route 125. The meeting comes after many residents requested the town no longer support the monthly publication, which has been run by volunteers for the last 40 years, with town tax dollars. If the board decides to continue providing funding, they argued for town oversight on what goes into the publication.  A number of residents were outraged with an editorial that appeared in last month’s newsletter titled Racism From a White Man s Perspective” written by Richard Gagnon. They objected to the article being listed as an editorial when it was an op-ed or opinion piece, and they worry that the article gives an unfair picture of their town.
