SPENCER — Monday’s cold, cloudy evening couldn’t cool off the Spencer Tiger girls tennis team which bounced back from a Spirit Lake loss last week. The SHS squad took down the Cherokee Braves, defending the Riverview Tennis Courts for an 8-1 Lakes Conference victory. “Fun senior night,” Tiger girls coach Bob Schlaeger said. “The players are continuing to learn how to complete. Tonight was a big step forward to peaking at the end of the season.”

SPENCER — “The journey continues.” Tiger coach Bob Schlaeger made the claim following the team’s 8-1 Lakes Conference windy win over Storm Lake Monday night at Spencer’s Riverview Courts. He was able to pull from some of his team’s depth in the lopsided victory as extreme winds carried lobs all over the court, making it a low elevation strategy for the match. “We are learning,” he said. “We were able to have some young players play up today.”

FORT DODGE — Debuting on the road against Fort Dodge, Spencer’s girls claimed 10 of 11 matches, and 125 of 153 games played, for their first win of the young season, Thursday. “A good start to our season,” said Bob Schlaeger, Tiger girls head. “Saw some good things that we have been working on, also knocked some rust off,” he added. “As a team, we will build upon this win and try to peak towards the end of the season.”
